New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has named state Attorney General Jeffrey Chiesa (kee-AY'-sah) to temporarily fill the U.S. Senate seat that opened up this week after Frank Lautenberg's death.

The scales of justice stand on a shelf in Attorney General Jeffrey Chiesa’s eighth-floor office overlooking the Delaware River in Trenton. To the right is a colorful, round piñata made by his 10-year-old daughter, Hannah. To the left, a photo of one of his closest friends: Gov. Chris Christie.
As Chiesa assumes one of the most powerful positions in New Jersey government, he faces a delicate balancing act between his role as the state’s independent top cop and lawyer, and his relationships most dear to him, both at home and inside the Statehouse.
From NY Times
Mr. Chiesa served as chief counsel to Mr. Christie from January 2010 through December 2011, when he was nominated to be New Jersey attorney general. He will not seek the Senate seat when his term is done, Mr. Christie said.
